You only have about three seconds before your email recipient makes a choice between reading and trashing your email. Your goal is to get to read it, and also to respond to enable you to set an appointment and begin the selling process. That means you need to get them to actually read your email and not delete it.
There are two main points to successful email prospecting:
1) The message
2) Your personal approach
Even if you are emailing to a list of recipients who have never heard of you, your email campaigns can still get replies.
Have you been discouraged because your email campaigns weren’t generating any lead responses?
On discovery most peoples email were long and centered primarily on their services. They are usually sent on a template that includes a graphic resembling a newsletter banner with bullets and multiple font colors throughout. Nothing resembling a personal email.
If you change your approach, you could suddenly see an increase in responses.
Email prospecting does work, you just need to know how to appeal to your prospects. Here are six tips that really work.
1. Limit the number of emails that you send. Do not send our more emails than you can reply to. People today expect you to reply to their email response within 24 hours or less is even better. Make sure you can be responsive.
2. Custom tailor your email message. A small group of recipients allows you to get personal in your email message.
3. Important: Personalize the email subject line. Personalized subject lines can significantly increase your responses. Response rates between 16 percent and as high as 62 percent are very real.
When you are sending to recipients who won’t recognize your name, it is very important that the subject line of the email grabs their attention and gets them to open the email.
Some examples are:
ª Can we talk next Thursday at 1pm?
ª Should we talk?
4. Use a warm greeting. Be informal and inviting. Begin your emails with a warm greeting and the recipient's first name, such as “Hi, Joe.”
If you don’t have a person's name, don't email that company. Get the person's name first.
5. Keep your emails short. Be sure to keep your email as short as possible so as to make it a quick read.
A good rule is, do not use more than four sentences in a paragraph. Try to limit your email to three paragraphs and a one sentence line as your ending/closing paragraph.
6. Don't worry about grammar and being proper. Emails must feel their personal and less like a business letter. Write conversationally and don't get stuck on grammar. The more comfortable your message is, the more likely you will get responses.
